Tema Port records 9.2 million tons of cargo

The Tema Port as at October this year had recorded 9.2 million tons of cargo against 10.01 during the same period last year. This shows a shortfall of about 900, 000 tons of cargo.

The Marketing and Public Relations Manager of the Tema Port, Paul Asare Ansah said though figures for November and December have not yet been released, there is no likelihood of an increase in figures.

Speaking to Radio Ghana’s Edith Eshun in Tema, Mr. Ansah said the shortfall has been registered as a result of a number of factors including traders’ agitation against increase in taxes and the exchange rate saga.

Mr. Ansah stated that transit cargo was not left out as the implementation of the axle load policy compelled most of the Ghanaian truck drivers to relocate to Ports where the policy has not been implemented.
