Fish farming is huge potential for employment generation

Mr. Raanan Berzak, the Chief Executive Officer of Raanan Fish Feedv Ltd, has said fish farming remained one very lucrative area for employment generation.

“People have failed with fish farming in the past simply because they lacked knowledge in the field,” he told the GNA in an interview when Mr Yair Shamir, the Israeli Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, visited the facility at Prampram.

He said as an expert in fish production, he had observed that Ghana was typically a fish consuming country, adding that many more people could get into fish farming and be successful.

Mr. Raanan said his company had been able to assist a number of fish farmers to increase their yield through thorough education. “Cooperation on fish farming between Ghana and Israel should be centered on knowledge dissemination. That is what I see that farmers here need most,” he said.

Mr. Shamirsaid he was impressed at the peaceful atmosphere that pertained in Ghana. “Once you have this kind of open attitude of peace and tranquility that is very encouraging to investors and others who would like to get into progressive ventures with you,” he said.

Mr. Shamir said he came along with representatives of 12 world class companies who were collaborating with Ghanaian business men to find viable areas of cooperation.

Mr. Nayon Bilijo, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, said Israel had lots of expertise in fish production and that Ghana intended to increase its local fish production as well as improve upon the industry as a whole.

The Minister said this made cooperation and collaboration between the two countries important.
