Traders at Makola Market expect increased sales in 2013

Traders at Makola Market have expressed different opinions on sales as some have doubled their sales in the Christmas festivities while others have not.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday, Madam Akosua Boateng and Esther Owusu who sell shoes and ladies clothing respectively said their sales had increased tremendously this season compared to last year’s sales.

They said sales had been good and expected it to remain the same in 2013. Another trader who sells assorted drinks told the GNA that sales were normal but was quick to add that it had not been to her expectation, as she has not hit the target she had set for herself.

She attributed it to high import taxes on the items. On her New Year expectation, she told the GNA that the government should reduce import taxes and duties on drinks and goods to enable traders to increase their sales in the coming year.

Contrary to these assertions, another trader told GNA that sales were not encouraging. She said customers had complained to her that “there is no money in the system.”

She told GNA that she expected the trend to change to enable her to make more sales in 2013.
