Vodafone Ghana Activates Red Alert For Melcom Disaster Victims

Vodafone Ghana, is giving customers the opportunity to show their support to the victims of the Melcom Mall disaster by activating its disaster fundraising platform, Red Alert. Customers can donate to the hospitals treating the victims of this terrible incident by texting *133#. The money collected through this platform will be added to a donation amount by Vodafone Ghana and its Foundation and donated to the trauma and surgery departments of these hospitals.

Red Alert was created by the Vodafone Foundation and it is an SMS platform specifically created for Vodafone customers who want to support people in need by donating money. The trauma of the incident is still very raw and Vodafone Ghana wants to reach out and show their sympathies to the victims and their families. Vodafone will also donate to institutions which provide counseling to trauma victims to allow these disaster victims to access this service.

Talking, sharing and going through the healing process is a beneficial process any victim of trauma needs to go through. Vodafone’s CSR plan on health has been focused and single-minded over the last two years to engage, educate and empower Ghanaians with information and various platforms to better health and long life.

Vodafone Ghana’s Head of Corporate Communications Carmen Bruce Annan said ‘Our deepest sympathies goes out to the victims and their families and we cannot begin to understand their turmoil but hope with a little support from us, they will receive the support needed to get better. We are all very shaken by the incident and know that the Ghanaian people will come together in support.’
