GMA CEO to speak at Accra Sports Expo 2012

Edward Boateng, Executive Chairman of Global Media Alliance (GMA) would be one of the key speakers at the forthcoming 4th Accra Biennial Sports Expo 2012 to be held in Accra from Tuesday 15th to Friday 18th May, 2012 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Boateng, an astute businessman would speak on the topic, “Sports as Emerging Industry in Africa: Defining Framework for Continental Empowerment’.

He would also participate in other group discussions at the four-day exposition, which would be under the theme, "Promoting Africa’s Talents Globally: Role Of Sports Business”.

According to the Event organizers, RICS Consult Limited, the show would focus on ways of leveraging all facets of sports business principles and practices to develop and globally promote Africa’s Sports Talents.

It would also seek to reach consensus on a designed road map to assist African nations; governments; sports policy makers; administrators and performers to re-think sports as an emerging industry with all its attendant benefits to help 'grow' African economies.

An estimated 200 participants from the various Regional and District Sports Councils, National Sports Associations and Federations, District / Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies and the private sector would participate in the four-day conference.

Boateng who doubles as the Chairman of the Silver Bird Africa Group, the brain behind Silver Bird Entertainment Ghana Limited, a partnership between GMA and the Silver Bird Group of Nigeria, was a speaker at the 3rd Football Expo organized in 2008.

He has over the years worked with Turner Broadcasting Systems, (TBS) then the parent company for CNN, Cartoon Network and the Turner Classics Movies, both household names, whilst playing a role at the launch of the first private TV network in South Africa - e.TV.

The GMA boss also played an advisory role for the group that worked with IPP Media to launch the first free-to-air television station in Tanzania n 1994.

Boateng also supervised the GMA to organize events including the CNN Multi Choice African Journalists Awards, Ghana Premier League Awards, Ghana National Tourism Awards, Happy FM Mass Wedding, Nigeria's Independence Day Golf Tournament as well as many corporate launches for clients such as the then ZAIN, One Touch, Ecobank, FIDELITY, and Barclays Bank Ghana Limited with Y 107.7 FM, Happy 98.9 FM, Anigye 102.5 FM (Kumasi) and WEEKEND World newspaper as assets of the company.
