MTN and YFM welcome tertiary students in grand style

Accra, Sept. 30, GNA - Ghana's leading youth-oriented radio station, Yfm, in collaboration with MTN will from today September 29th to October 2nd present welcome wonderful packages to tertiary students from selected institutions.

The i-Fest competition and Rave Akwaaba 2011 are annual activities organized by the MTN to give out prizes including modems, T. Shirts, airtime vouchers and many more items.

It also seeks to encourage students to focus on their academic work while enjoying campus life.

The programme dubbed: “Akwaaba 2011” was to bring together students from the various tertiary institutions across Ghana to a fun filled weekend full of activities such as movie night, live program interaction and a beach party.

The celebration marked the climax of the MTN i-Fest student activations during, which teams from Yfm and MTN will visit the Legon Campus, Accra Polytechnic, Valley View University and Takoradi Polytechnic throughout the month of September.

The official Weekend Rave Akwaaba 2011 will take place at the University of Ghana Campus.

Akwaaba 2011 kicks-off with a movie night at Silverbird Cinema on Thursday night and this will be attended by winners of the i-Fest competitions as well as other student groups.

On Saturday, there will be a live radio broadcast of the “Y Campus Express” Radio Show, under the theme Straight A’s this semester".

Other side attractions include a one-on-one basketball tournament and a Pizza-Eating Competition.

Richard Acheampong, General Manager for Marketing Communications, MTN Ghana, said the goal of the i-Fest activation was to generate awareness about the importance of the Internet and to promote consumer usage.

The campaign also seeks to project the benefits of internet usage in enriching businesses, education, personal life and professional career development.

The General Manager of Yfm, Nana Kwame Osei Sarpong expressed his excitement about the success of the program.

"Yfm is committed to bringing quality entertainment to the youth and we look forward to sustaining the initiative", he said
