VR to develop salt and limestone mining to boost economy

Ho, May 24, GNA - The Volta Region would develop its potentials in s alt and limestone mining; oyster shells; and kaolin extraction to create jobs

and to boost the region's economy.

This is expected to curb the migration of young people from the Regi on to other parts of the country in search of jobs. This is contained in a resolution adopted by participants at a two-d ay forum under the auspices of the Regional Coordinating Council on the them e, "A better Volta in a better Ghana."

The resolution said the region's potentials in the craft industry, brick and tiles, paint, wood processing, textiles and garments would also be developed.

It said sea and land ports would be developed at Keta, Abotoase and Dzemeni and the private sector empowered through the creation of markets by way of trade fairs and micro financing. The resolution said the development of feeder roads would receive optimum attention. The forum identified some developmental challenges confronting the region and recommended the formation of a consultative committee to champ ion the development of the region. The forum discussed the state of Education, Roads, Security, Economy,

Health, Tourism and Culture in the region.
