Traders cash in on NPP rally in Accra

Food vendors and traders selling paraphernalia of the opposition New Patriotic Party, cashed in on a mammoth rally held in Accra on Saturday to climax the party’s flag-bearer’s nation-wide listening tour.

Some of the traders who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the rally on conditions of anonymity, though failed to disclose the actual amount of sales they had made, stressed that business had been good.

The rally, which was heavily patronized by supporters, sympathizers and party leaders including Former President John Agyekum Kuffuor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, flag bearer, Mr Jake Obestebi-Lamptey, National Party Chairman and Mr Kennedy Agyapong, outspoken Member of Parliament of Assin North, was also an avenue for opportunistic traders to make economic gains.

A few, however, chastised others who were seen distributing party paraphernalia free of charge to party faithful at the rally grounds.

Commodities traded in included scarves which cost three cedis each, handkerchief, one cedi, shirt, 10 cedis, and a cap which sold for three cedis.

Other traders seen at the rally grounds carried sachet water, biscuits, gums and toffees- well sought after handy commodities for busy but expectant party supporters.
