PUM to assist Sokoban woodworkers to adopt best practices

“PUM”, a Holland-based Consultancy Organization has entered into partnership with the Management of the Sokoban Wood Village to help expose wood workers at the enclave to modern technologies and skills.

The goal is to assist them to become more competitive and to keep them in business.

Mr Sikpe De Vries, a Senior Expert of PUM, told the GNA that they will provide the workers with periodic training in wood technology, focusing on safety and environmental issues, as well as business development.

He said they will be taking them through challenges in the wood industry and how to sustain their trade in the face of climatic changes and the availability of raw materials.

Mr De Vries said his organization would work closely with their counterparts in designing the training modules.

The Wood Village, he noted, has a lot of potentials, which could be tapped for the benefit of the economy.

He said PUM will also bring together experts, to explore the possibility of recycling sawdust and other waste materials into profitable products adding that he was completely shocked by the way the wood workers went about their business, showing little or no regard for industrial safety measures.**
