GTUC wins International Award

The Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) has received the prestigious Platinum Award for Quality Education in Africa at this year’s Business Initiative Direction (BID) Quality Era Awards in Geneva, Switzerland.

GTUC won the enviable award for over six years of excellent delivery of quality education in Africa. BID awards are presented to companies, organisations and individuals in different countries that further their reputation and position by implementing and promoting quality culture.

It recognises and encourages the contribution of companies and organisations to quality, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction as well as improving relations with employees, suppliers and all those associated with the organisation.

BID monitor companies and institutions that are symbols of commitment to leadership, technology, innovation and are a model for others in their sector. Based on BID’s own strict Quality Culture 100 principles, it then writes to those institutions to put in entries and stand a chance of winning Platinum, Gold or Silver awards.

President of GTUC, Dr. Osei Kofi Darkwa led a delegation to Geneva to receive the Century International Quality ERA Trophy and certificate, which came with the award. As part of the award, the school also gets a BID quality mix programme for the next two years, plus the opportunity to use the award logo for adverts, and also free publicity in some selected international media.

The school is also required to make a commitment to BID’s total quality management (TQM) QC100 principles. Dr. Darkwa said: “We are excited that we have been recognised in the company of great organisations across the globe.”

He said the award is evidence and an affirmation to the good work GTUC has been doing for more than six years now, adding that “my team and I are motivated by a sheer determination to see Africa and Ghana achieve its highest potential in terms of quality human resource.
