Customs calls for resources

The Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Major General Carl Modey, has called on government to provide the authority with the needed resources to achieve its target this year.

He said even though GRA met its revenue generation target last year, it did that with limited resources, indicating that if government provides the sector with the needed resources, much more could be achieved.

General Modey, addressing a cross-section of officers of the Customs Division of the GRA at a get-together at Tema Port, noted that this year the sector’s target had been increased by 21.9 percent.

Commending the officers for feat last year, he promised that his office will not relent in making efforts to ensure that government provides the sector with all the needed resources that will aid in making their work successful.

The Commissioner General of the GRA also called on the media to use their platform to highlight what he described as the deplorable conditions under which some of the revenue collectors perform their duties.

Alhaji Yusif A. Yakubu, Tema Sector Customs Commander, commenting on some of the challenges facing his outfit, mentioned that his sector lacks the required number of personnel to work.

He said the stakeholders are working hard to strengthen the port to ensure that unauthorized goods, especially scrap, do not leave the port unnoticed.

Some dedicated officers, who excelled in the discharge of their duties, were awarded for their hard work at the dinner night by the Tema Customs Division.
