CAL bank assists Weija Leprosarium

Cal Bank on Thursday brought smiles to the faces of the residents of the Weija Leprosarium when they donated food items worth ten million cedis to them. The items included ten bags each of rice, beans, gari and maize, hundred tubers of yam, five cartons of chocolim and ten cartons of milk.

The bank also gave the Leprosarium ten million cedis and a bank account opened for the receipt of donations.

Making the presentation, the General Manager of Cal Bank, Patrick Anumel said the donation was part of activities marking their Customer Service Month, and an affirmation of the value they place on their customers and society.

Receiving the donation, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell said since the leprosarium was established some fifty seven years ago, it has had to rely on the benevolence of individuals and organizations for assistance. He noted that families of the cured lepers have shunned them because they are scared of contracting the disease if they get close to them.

“Although government policy is that these cured lepers be integrated back into society, it is just not possible because their own families are running away from them.”

He said that such stigmatization should be condemned in no uncertain terms, and called on all and sundry to follow the footsteps of Cal bank and donate generously to the leprosarium.

75-year old Gladys Addobea who has been at the leprosarium since its inception, expressed her sincere gratitude to Cal bank, on behalf of her colleagues.

Elorm Aidam, a marketing and client service executive of Cal bank told dailyEXPRESS that the donation, coming on the heels of similar ones to some orphanages around the country in December, showed the consistency of the bank when it comes to corporate responsibility.

Ms. Aidam said the Customer Service Month will be sustained and become a feature of the bank’s annual activities.
