For the third year, Christmas came early for Pupils of Himankrom Methodist School in the Western Region as employees of Airtel Ghana, through their employee led internal corporate social responsibility initiative “Make a Difference Day“(MADD), celebrated the festive season with their adopted school.

Pupils and teachers who had a very good time with Airtel employees, were feted and provided with gift packs containing assorted items to make it a remarkable end to the year.

Legal and Corporate Affairs Director at Airtel Ghana, Hannah Agbozo said, “Our yearly interactions with the staff and pupils of this school, is in line with our commitment to supporting and enriching lives. Our vision is to see Himankrom School improve in terms of infrastructure, teaching and learning and comparable to well-equipped urban schools. At Airtel, we aim at making a sustainable impact by empowering people and communities through our CSR projects.”

She explained further, “we are happy to join you today and we want to use this festive season to renew our commitment and love to the school. These children are close to our hearts. We want to make their engagement with our employees, even for a few hours, unforgettable. This special Christmas activity is now in its 3rd year and we intend to continue for years to come.”

Himankrom Methodist School was adopted under Airtel’s School Adoption Program in 2010 as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

Airtel has since 2010 renovated the then dilapidated classroom block and added a playground, offices, library and sanitation facilities to the school in addition to furnishing the library with books. Airtel Ghana continues to assist the school to help improve teaching and learning.

It is obviously because of such projects that Airtel Ghana was recently recognized at both the Ghana CSR Excellence Awards as the Best CSR Company for Education and Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Excellence Awards as the Best Community Relations Programme of the Year for being the leader in promoting educational standards and infrastructural developments in communities across the country.
