Agama Removed As Governor Of Central Bank

Accra (GAR), June 24, - Dr Kwabena Duffour, a Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has been appointed the Governor, Mr Jimmy Amissah, Secretary to the President said today. Dr Duffour takes over from Dr G.K. Agama whose contract appointment expires on July 17. Mr Emmanuel Ossei Kumah, a banker, has also been appointed Deputy Governor, taking over from Nana Ama Oye Yeboah who will be re-assigned. In a statement reacting to speculations about changes at the top echelons of the Central Bank, Mr Amissah said before appointments are made, consultations are made with the Council of State. It is after these consultations that those to be appointed are notified and announcement is made. "Once the individuals concerned are formally notified, the changes or appointments become public leading to some amount of speculation''. The statement also announced the replacement of Mr Isaac Ewun-Tohma, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service(CEPS). Mr Charles Asembiri, General Manager of the Ghana Stock Exchange, has been nominated to take over from him.
