Commey settles down to business in the US

Richard Oblitey Commey is leaving no stone unturned in his determination to announce himself to the boxing world in grand fashion when he fights in the United States of America for the first time on Friday night.

The Commonwealth Lightweight champion landed in the US at the weekend ahead of his debut in the 'Mecca of boxing' come Friday night against Uzbekistan boxer, Bahodir Mamadjonov.

Under the competent tutelage of his long time trainer, Lawrence Carl Lokko, Commey has settled down and training fervently in Floyd 'Money' Mayweather's gym for the IBF Intercontinental Lightweight title fight against Mamadjonov at the D Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada to be televised live on CBS.

Rated number 7 by the IBF, undefeated Commey (21-0, 19 KOs) hopes to edge closer to a world title shot with victory against the Houston, Texas-based Mamadjonov (17-1, 11 KOs) who beat another Ghanaian, Osumanu Akaba in his last fight back in August last year.

And after posting these photos of their preparations in the US earlier this morning, Commey's coach, Carl Lokko has received a massive show of support from Ghanaians who have been commenting on the Facebook post.

"Wishing you the best of luck, we know with Christ on your vessel, you shall overcome the storms. Richie and Carl, we have confidence in you guys that you shall deliver and move straight to the conquer the world. Big ups," wrote Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye, CEO of Box Office Sports Promotions.

" It's your time, go Team Commey. I know with the discipline and hard work you will get there in Jesus name," Ghana Boxing Authority PRO, Naa Darkuah Dodoo added.

"We are with you our world title prospect. May the Lord be with you throughout," renowned ring announcer and sports journalist, Mohammed Amin Lamptey also said.

Not to be left out was newly elected 1st Vice President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation, George Lamptey who also indicated his confidence in Team Commey.

"God be on your side. You shall surely win. God protect you and bless you," Mr. Lamptey stated.

But yet the best of all came from a fan by name, Mustapha Nettey. "The Gym is Bronx, the boxer is Richie Commey, the coach is Carl Lawrence Lokko, the location is Bukom and the team is #teamrichiecommey. We are waiting with bated breath to start the jubilation. God be with you," Nettey stated.
