Richmond Djarbeng to redeem Ghana’s Image

Ghana’s Richmond Djarbeng has promised to redeem the image of the nation in international boxing.

Richmond Djarbeng is hopeful that he will return to Ghana a victorious man after his first fight outside the shores of this country next month.
The former West Africa Welterweight champion who holds the WBA Pan Africa Welterweight belt, will slug it out against Brisbane schoolteacher, Jeff Horn at the Arena Manawatu, Palmerston North, New Zealand come June 13 on his first voyage out of Ghana.
Djarbeng is the No. 13 contender for Floyd Mayweather’s WBA welterweight title, two places above Horn ahead of their 12-rounder which has at stake both of 27 year old Horn's PABA and WBO Oriental Welterweight belts.
The 12 rounder is a stern test of the credentials of the world title chasing Djarbeng (19-2-1, 15 KOs) who is chasing the 20th consecutive victory of his career.
Djarbeng did not have the best of career starts, drawing his first professional fight against Albert Mensah (currently IBF rated no.11 Junior Welterweight in the world) in June 2004. He went on to lose his next two fights but Djarbeng bounced back in style and has won all 19 fights since, his last defeat coming to now US based Emmanuel Lartei Lartey in October 2006.
The Ghanaian is confident he can chalk up career win number 20 in a row against the highly rated and undefeated Horn (9-0-1, 7 KOs).
"I am in good shape, training under the best conditions and my coach and my team have been helpful so much I am very confident I will knock him out to bring victory to Ghanaians," Djarbeng expressed.
"It's true that it's my first fight outside Ghana but I will be ready for whatever he throws at me, not even his home crowd can distract me. All I ask from my fans and all Ghanaians is continued prayer and I will return a winner," He noted.
