We will stop Kamote - Team Ashie predicts

George ‘Red Tiger’ Ashie and his camp have given every indication that his Tanzanian opponent Alan Kamote will not travel the full distance when they clash at the Accra Stadium tonight.

The clash, the main bout on the night of ‘Fist of Fury’, put together by McDon Boxing Promotions, offers the combatants the opportunity to vie for Interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) African Lightweight title.

It is the Red Tiger’s second fight after his infamous defeat to Emmanuel Tagoe in a fight which went down in history as one of the country’s biggest, drawing thousands of fans to the Accra Stadium.

Today’s anticipated epic tie places the winner in a good position to vie for World Boxing Organization (WBO) titles.

And according to Ashie’s trainer, Godwin Dzani Kotey, popularly referred to as ‘Aloway’, his boxer is ready for the challenge.

“He has been in the gym, for a while, preparation have gone very far.

“We will stop him, but in boxing anything can happen, I can’t predict any round for now, but we will definitely win.”

Red Tiger has a fine fight record of 29 fights, 24 victories with 17 KO’s, four losses and a draw, and looks composed to use tonight’s bout as a launch pad to breathe life into his career.

Kamote, 32, arrived in the country last Friday looking composed, and is expected to give the Ghanaian a stiff opposition. The Tanzanian has 36 fights to his credit, with 24 wins, 14 through KO’s, seven losses and four draws.

On the same bill is a 12-round World Boxing Federation (WBF) Africa Light-Heavyweight Championship fight involving Maxwell “Black Wolf” Amponsah and Ebenezer “Upper Cut” Tetteh.

Pride “Octopus” Dzanie will battle Michael Barnor in another 12 round bout for the National and West Africa Boxing Union (WABU) Bantamweight title. Ex-national champion, Patrick Allotey will clash with Isaac Aryee in a Welterweight contest.
