Azumah endorses roaming gym juvenile boxing talent hunt

Ghana's boxing legend was at the Gbese Mantse's Palace to lend full support to the Goldstar Airlines sponsored roaming gym boxing talent hunt.
Following the successful start to the novelty juvenile boxing talent recruitment last week, guess who showed up at the second week of the programme on Sunday evening? Boxing legend, Azumah Nelson himself, phew!
The former world champion added more colour to highly competitive fights teenagers including even girls engaged in right in front of the Gbese Mantse's palace in the heart of Accra, praising the organisers for the initiative he believes could bring the country more world champions if sustained.
"This is a very good idea and we must all thank the organisers for starting this programme. If it's managed well, I have no doubt that the country will become the best exporter of boxers in the whole world because as you all saw here, the kids are very talented," Azumah told Allsports.com.gh at ringside.
In the event, 21 more promising boxers were selected to add to the 21 recruited at James Town Roundabout a week earlier, as the Will Power gym led nationwide recruitment made it two weekends running.
Goldstar Airlines, the indigenous airline which still awaiting inspection by Ghanaian aviation officials for approval to begin full operations are sponsoring the whole project with a further commitment to fund further training and honing of skills of selected boxers to world standards including training trips to the UK, USA and Cuba.
Razak Adjei, Mohammed Aryee, Sule Lamptey, Isaac Ola, Abednego Armah, Gifty Aryee, Lukeman Alhassan, Eric Quaye, Albert Aryeetey and Emmanuel Neequaye were some of the aspiring boxers selected on Sunday evening.
Others are Bernard Ankrah, Neequaye Africa, William Attoh, Shekuz Samed, Daniel Agbaga, Richard Asare, Ernest Ampah, Yusif Seidu, Samuel Lamptey, Jonathan Tetteh and David Addy.
I congratulate the organisers especially Goldstar Airlines, the sponsors. It's amazing that a company which has not started work will be giving back to Ghanaians already like this. We all hope President Mahama will push for them to get their license to begin work soon because they have shown that Ghanaians will benefit from their work," Azumah sad.
Former Ghana and Africa Boxing Union (ABU) champion, Napoleon Tagoe who owns and heads the Will Power Boxing gym undertaking the recruitment, said the excitement and competition generated by the young boxers reiterates his stand that with a little bit more investment, boxing can really become the shining star of Ghanaian sports.
"I have no doubt that these young boxers can go far with the right training. I am going to teach them with the right tactics and they can be very good. i want to teach them to know everything to the extent that they can be good coaches as well in future," Coach Tagoe told Allsports.com.gh after Sundays recruitment.
"If you have the talent and you don't take instructions, it will only go to waste. They have to learn because this is just the beginning, if you know how to box, it comes with obeying instructions," Napoleon Tagoe added.
