In a conversation with Bukomboxingnews.com, Ghanaian world title contender Richard Commey confirmed that he will return to the ring on October 17th.

An opponent is yet to be named but according to Sauerland Promotions and Commey’s UK-based manager Michael Amoo-Bediako, the bout will take place in Karlsruhe, Germany at the dm-Arena.

Commey, the reigning Commonwealth lightweight champion, is seeking a world title and is one of Ghana’s brightest hopes to win one. The 28-year-old boxer-puncher has received plaudits from several notables, including Hall of Famer and fellow Ghanaian Azumah Nelson. Most recently, he was forced to cut short his training in London, England, and return home, where he will receive the Sports Writers Association of Ghana’s 2015 Professional Boxer of the Year award.

Much of the kudos comes on the heels of Commey’s United States debut last May, where he scored an eight round stoppage over durable Uzbek Bahodir Mamadjonov to run his unblemished record to 22-0 (20 KO’s). Commey, however, isn’t stopping to smell the roses.

“Yes what you have heard is true, October 17th I will be fighting in Germany for the first time,” he reported. “Though I’m yet to know my opponent it doesn’t mean I should stay idle, preparations is still going on.

“We have to prepare irrespective of the opponent,” Commey continued. “Boxing is a sport that if you underrate your opponent you will be laughing at the wrong side of your mouth, and I’m well prepared for October 17.

“I’m elated to be receiving the award as the Professional Boxer of the Year. It tells me my good work has been recognized, and I will keep on pushing hard for a world title. If that happens, I will not disappoint Ghanaians and all my fans across the globe.”
