The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has donated assorted gifts to Emmanuel “Game Boy” Tagoe (26-1, 13 KOs) as he gears up to face South Africa’s Mzonke Fana (48-10, 16 KOs) at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra tomorrow.

The items include two cartons of mineral water, seven crates of eggs and two crates of milk juice – to motivate Tagoe to defeat Fana for the IBF Junior Lightweight title.

The president of GBA, Peter Zwennes, said: “Our foremost hope for a world title in professional boxing in this country is ‘Game Boy’ Emmanuel Tagoe.

“God-willing, coming Friday, he will lift high the flag of the nation and make all of us proud. We know what stuff he is made of, he is a very durable boxer, he is always a well-conditioned boxer and we believe that given the opportunity, he will go greater heights.”

He added: “This is only the beginning, he is going to win the IBO World title. He has been rated by the WBA and, I believe after this fight, he will be rated by the WBC as well.

“So we are looking at the possibility of a triple World champion in the shortest possible time. We have been starved of world champions in the past couple of years. Our last world champion was Joshua Clottey, since then, we have been struggling, a few have come close, Osumanu Adama fought Gennady Golovkin, it was unsuccessful.

“Richard Commey recently fought, it was unsuccessful. This time, we intend to get it right. On behalf of the Ghana Boxing Authority, we want to make this token of donation to our next world champion, Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe.”
