Commey: Pray for me to become a world champ

Richard Richard

International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight World title contender Richard Commey has asked Ghanaians not to expect too much from him as he prepares to take on American fighter Robert Easter Jr. in a little over a month.

The 28-year-old, however, has promised to give off his best, on the night of September 9th when he comes up against his opponent.

“I won’t tell Ghanaians to expect a knockout from me, but I will be going out to give that fight my best. Victory comes only from the Lord because he is the only one who can assure that. If Ghanaians want this title, they should be ready to go on their knees and pray for me so that the dream becomes a reality”, he told Class Sports.

In December last year, international boxing icon Floyd Mayweather described Commey as a ‘good boxer’, an endorsement Commey said makes him proud.

“I feel very happy and proud of myself for the recognition from Floyd Mayweather. There are a lot of boxers out there but for him to single me out for praise tells a lot about how far I have come. I can only thank God,” he noted.
