Ghana’s amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers have labelled their federation president Gideon Quartey

as a liar for disclosing to the public that their demand for per diems resulted in their failure to qualify for the Olympic Games.

The Black Bombers have come under a barrage of criticisms for failing to qualify to this year’s multi-sports event in Brazil after the sports ministry doled out $20,000 to aid their travel to Cameroun.

Team Ghana was represented by eight male boxers and one female boxer, but none made it to the finals, making it the worse results in the past 20 years in Ghana’s history of boxing.

“This is a total lie; we never demanded for money because we know when we qualify to the Olympic Games we will get better money so why should we do that?

"If you see how the likes of Azumah, Musah Rahman and Abdul Rahman fought in Cameroun, we wanted to qualify,” Captain Sulemanu Tetteh told Starr Sports.
