Prostitution is NOT the oldest profession in the world. That credit has to to the gatherer, then the hunter, fisherman, then farmer, then weaver....and so on and so on. Prostitution did not come to Africa until quite recently...

Come on people don't loose your common sense so easily. Think, before you accept what you are told.Where in traditional culture is there room for all of that??? True, promiscuity has always been around, however prostitution did not come to Ghana until after slavery. Who in the old days would let their unmarried child sleep around for cowrie money; or trade them for one night, for some fish or tomatoes? We have been introduced to slavery since those old days, Is that why we think it's okay to sell ourselves these days?

Legalizing this PRECISELY gives people license to sell them self! How disrespectful to our ancestors, and our history. It's true people are already doing it, but, why normalize this behavior. Most Ho's are not happy doing this job anyway, so I will not get into the morality of the issue. More prostitutes have to do drugs, or alcohol to disassociate themselves from the situation, when they lay it down. They close their eyes, and just think about the money. The prostitution trade and the drug trade go together like rice and stew.

And when you have a drug trade going on, guns will inevitably follow.If prostitution is so good then why, when they get out of the trade as they get older do they have to keep their past a secret. Have you ever heard the phrase "that's an honest living." Prostitution is not in that category. Only a fool is proud to say openly " I am a prostitute. Who will marry her, who will proudly say "She is my mother."

Legalizing prostitution is going to draw all sorts of negative people into the country, from around the whole world, looking to have cheap sex with the children of the nation. Would pimps roam the villages looking for young lives to spoil, and make themselves rich? Younger and younger kids will get sold into the underground trade quickly too. I thought our children were our wealth, Ghana. Our educated elders should be the defenders of all of the communities children. Are their children going to be in the prostitution line too?

Holland has other jobs for people who do not want to do this work, so most people their do not become prostitutes. But what other options do we currently have to offer our youth? We can fight HIV/AIDS through education, and improving access to medical care. Legalizing this, has absolutely nothing to do with health care, if these prostitutes had any sense, you would not have to make it a law for them to go to check-up, they should do it for their own benefit.

Even if it was legal, do you think that all prostitutes would even bother to get a license, and have it officially recorded that they are a prostitute'? And even if they had license, does that mean that they couldn't have gotten any diseases since their last check up? Condoms break all of the time! This whole issue seems to be mostly about collecting taxes. Are we okay with selling ourselves into bondage again? The former prostitute is bound to keep her former life a secret, and all those ugly memories will never go away.

If this door is opened, it will unleash more troubles than we are prepared to deal with, once unleashed many generations feel it's tragic repercussions.
