MY TRIBUTE TO PROF. JOHN EVANS ATTA MILLS.

He touched our nation in every way:
he lived by example, as opposition leader he endured all sort of attacks and got nicknamed "asomdwehene" (king of peace),an acolade not usually associated with power seekers especially in Africa.

As president, he got lambasted from both within and without his party yet he never lost his composure and never for once replied with a harsh word. Religiously, he was a christian Jesus would be proud of. Like every man, he might have sinned but he sought his makers face, thus, morally upright.

In the field of education, he taught in the classroom, transformed schools under trees , clothed basic school students, increased their feeding grants, gave them books, provided emergency dormitories and structures to accomodate first 4th year SHS students, started two universities, almost doubled/ quadrupled allowances of nursing and teacher trainees, etc.

In the field of economy, as IRS boss, he reformed the nations tax system, as president, he spearheaded the nations highest economic growth ever, sustained the longest single digit inflation ever attained, implemeented and paid highest ever single increment in salaries to government employees.

In sports he played hockey for the nation, as sports administrator and later as president, he introduced far reaching reforms and as president supervised the construction of the only morden hockey pitch in Ghana.

For entertainment, he introduced a GHS 2 million fund for the creative industry, for the the media, he introduced a GHS 1 million media development fund. Little as it may seem, if others befor him did as little, it would have been bigger today.

In health, he reconstructed the Tamale teaching hospital, built a new hospital in winneba and teshie to focus on the treatment of casualties resulting from car accidents that frequently occured on the road and malaria research respectively plus many other clinics in Bimbila and other communities. The retooling of the Ghana ambulance service with more than 160 new ambulances.

In agric and food production, i remember the countless number of tractors, the CDB fund for the Accra plains and landing beaches, premix fuel distribution for fishermen got transformed.

In security, he bagan retooling the Ghana navy with patrol boats and more, Airforce with aircrafts and more, fire service with over 120 fire tenders and more.

Apart from the above and more such as the transformation for the better in the organisation of hajj in 3 year he turned Ghana into a construstion site. There is hardly a community in Ghana today where you will not find a construction or repair of a road, drain, a bridge, a borehole, a school, a hospital, electrification etc. I am proud of you.
