Ghana can excel in Basketball – NBA star

The National Basketball Association (NBA), United States of America (USA) star, Chris Bosh, has said Ghana abounds in abundant talents in basketball to excel in the sport on the international scene.

Addressing a group of young Basket players in Accra, Bosh, who is in Ghana to embark on a Basketball Clinic, said though the nation thrives in talents in the sports, there is the need for the abilities to be identified and groomed to be world class players for the nation.

“Looking around, I see a lot of young men and women who are ready to commit themselves to the development of the game.

“They must be provided with the right training and platform to develop, because they have what it takes to excel on the international scene,” Bosh stated.

He however urged the young players to take their trainings serious if they want to reach higher heights.

“You must take your gym work serious, practice every day if you want to remain on top of your career,” he said.

According to Bosh, young players can realise their lifetime goals through basketball adding that, he had the opportunity to attend one of the best colleges in the USA because he decided to play basketball.

“For those of you who want to be professional basketball players, I encourage you to remain focused because, the sports has what it takes to open new doors for you.

“I have travelled across the world, because of basketball. I have played in the Olympics and the World Championships. Through the sport I can take care of myself and my family,” Bosh said.

The 30-year-old is in Ghana on the invitation of Coca-Cola Company Limited and NBA Africa for the second edition of the Sprite Ball Clinic.

The 2014 Sprite Ball Clinic is an initiative of Rite Multimedia supported by Coca-Cola Company Limited in collaboration with NBA Africa and Ghana Basketball Association.
