Vice-President of the Ghana Basketball Association, Benjamin Baafi, has bemoaned the lack of recognition of the sport by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and has appealed to the association to consider honouring basketball heroes to motivate talents.
He said over the years his outfit had nominated deserving basketball players who won laurels for the nation for consideration at the SWAG Awards but none of them was awarded.
The basketball coach and manager said he was shocked when at the awards ceremony last year, the best basketball player and team awards went to senior high school students and teams that participated in a privately organised competition.
He said that it was about time organisers of the SWAG Awards gave praise where it was due and awarded deserving nominees.
He appealed to the sports media to consider the successes chalked up in basketball in recent years and its promising future in the country when the awards ceremony takes place on June 29.
