Ashaiman qualify for quarter finals of Community Dunk

Accra, Sept. 6, GNA - Ashaiman dazzled their way into the quarter-finals of the 2011 Basketball Community Dunks competition by winning the Zone Two event of the ongoing Indomie Community Dunks at Tema on Sunday.

Ashaiman beat the whipping boys in the group, Tema by 69-55 score before seeing off highly improved and late entrants, Maamobi-Nima 50-45 in a competition designed for players under 18.

The match was a change of fate for Ashaiman who have played in the popular championship for selected communities in the Greater Accra Region since its inception three seasons ago.

The tele-phatic understanding of their play was awesome and will surely be one of the serious contenders for the title following their well-rehearsed display.

The action-packed game saw the three communities slug it out with a view of sealing the two top spots of the agenda.

Maamobi-Nima joined the impressive Ashaiman side in the knockout phase after edging out Tema 58-45 to dampen the spirit of the home crowd.

Tema came into the 2011 Indomie Community Dunks with high hopes of reaching the next stage of the competition but losses to Ashaiman and Maamobi-Nima have killed their ambitions and will need to wait another year to grind out a spot in the qualifiers.

The final qualifying zone will see maiden champions Cantonments battle neighbours Ridge and Burma Camp in an expected explosive encounter at the Prisons Court, Cantonments on Sunday, September 11.
