University of Ghana are the new GUSA Basketball Champions

Accra, June 12, GNA - University of Ghana (UG) is the new champions of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) in the Milo sponsored Basketball championship.

The lads from UG put up a spl endid 4th quarter performance to beat the defending champions, University of Education, Winneba, (UEW) 58-52, on Thursday night to win the championship.

The event sponsored by Nestle Milo has b een classified as the best ever in the competitions 21 year history, as it provided an avenue for a revenge for the men from the University of Ghana who had lived in the shadows of their opponents for the two years.

It was a repeat of finals two years ago in Tamale where UEW beat UG to clinch the title, which was watched by Mr David Addo Ashong, Chairman of the Ghana Basketball Association (GBA) and Mr Samuel Osafo, Category Business Manager, Nestle Milo (Central & West Africa).

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) won the bronze medal after a comfortable 51-29 win over University of Mines and Technology in the third place match.

Cyril Clarke of UG and Felicia Sarpong of KNUST were adjudged the Most Valuable Players of the championship in the male and female categories respectively. In the Ladies division, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) came first followed by University of Cape Coast (UCC) whilst University of Education, Winneba placed third. 12 June 2010
