Musicians Meet Tourism Minister

Members of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) on Wednesday held a meeting with the Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, in his office to find a lasting solution to numerous problems facing the music industry.

At the meeting, the musicians led by their president, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, rejected the proposal by the Institution for Music and Development headed by Prof. Komla Amoako for the formation of National Music Council (NMC).

The musicians suggested that instead of the formation of a music council, a National music board should be set up with support from MUSIGA and the Tourism Minister as chairman.

In his address, the MUSIGA president, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, appealed to the government to support the music industry and musicians to enable both musicians and stakeholders to achieve their objectives.

According to him, musicians in Ghana have suffered for far too long in the hands of certain elements who have always taken musicians for a ride.

He disclosed that the executives of MUSIGA will soon put in place measures to protect the interest of Ghanaian musicians.

On his part, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, assured the musicians of government?s support since some of its activities go with music.

He said his outfit is ever ready to help musicians develop their talents, as well as their performance on stage, adding that his ministry would work hand in hand with MUSIGA to get proper managers to manage the artistes.

A similar meeting was held with the chairman of the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Prof. George Hagan, during which he also assured the musicians of the commission?s support for their activities.

He advised the musicians to come together and work as a team to build a better music industry.

Present at the meeting were, Papa Yankson, A. B. Crenstil, Ofori Amposah, Obuor, FBS, Thomas Frimpong, K. K. Kabobo, Tic Tac, King David, Mzbel, Kwamina Kwamina, VIP, Chicago, Armah Pino, S. Doe, Judy Lomotey, Prince Osei Kofi, Sony Achiba and a host of other prominent artistes.
