Final Farewell For Kwabena Akwaboah

Top Ghanaian musicians across the length and breadth of the country will descend on the Garden City of Kumasi, popularly known as Oseikrom, specifically on the Cultural Centre today to bid final farewell to their master, mentor, brother and father, Master Kwabena Akwaboah who passed away Friday January 2nd 2004.

The musicians who cut across the various musical departments namely; gospel, highlife, hiplife, reggae and traditional, are expected to pay their last respect to the man who was known for his creativity in the sixties.

According to family sources, some of the artistes who had already declared their intention to storm the garden city for the great funeral included the maestro Kojo Antwi, Abrantie Amakye Dede, Oheneba Kissi, Prof. Kofi Abraham, Alex Kwabena Konadu and Kwadwo Akwaboah.

The rest were Dr. Paa Bobo, Asiebu Amenfi, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, Osei Kofi, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, Lord Kenya, Okomfo Kwadee, Nsiah Piesie, Prophet Seth Frimpong, J.A. Adofo, Kofi Sammy, Yaw Sarpong and his Asomafo band among others.

The funeral ground is expected to shake to the very foundation, following the determination of the musicians to give the ace musician a fitting burial.

Master Akwaboah started his musical career in the earlier sixties and churned out a number of great hits including ?Agyanka Due?, ?Hwe Me Bi?, ?Fabewo So? among others, which made him one of the pundits of the time.

He continued his musical exploits until in the late seventies when the likes of Odwomtofo Nana Kwame Ampadu, J.A. Adofo, Kofi Sammy, Dr. Paa Bobo, Osei Kofi and others over the mantle.

Master Akwaboah was said to have suffered a short illness as a result of which he was admitted at the Okomfo Anokye Hospital where he passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004 after celebrating the New Year with his family.

The musical master who was born some 70 years ago, left behind two wives and 36 children including the talented pianist and singer, Kwadwo Akwaboah who was behind the success story of the one time hot musical group, Marriots International Band.
