Another sound engineer springs up

The name sound engineer is becoming more popular in recent times. The good ones are still making an impact with their strong beats and master mixing and musicians keep rushing to them whenever there is a new discovery that is good in the job.

For sometime now the musicians have channel their way to Tema community 11 to have their sounds done by David Kojo Kyei aka “Kaywa” of Groove Zone records. Kaywa who has been in existence for one year and some months has songs like Chempe’s “Why you de beat am”, 4×4 “Hot girl dot com”, Triggar “Sarkodie” and Samini’s “Happy Birthday Ghana” all coming from his studio.

He is also working on new projects of Nana Quame, Boli of kiss the bride fame, Daasebre Dwamena, Okyeame Quame, Nana Antwi, Nana little, Kofi B, Castro featuring Asamoah Djan the Black star footballer, Abrewanana, Noble Nketiah and also he is working on four tracks of Reggie Rockstone’s new project and will be mixing the entire album.

According to him it hasn’t been easy coming this far because from the beginning his father never liked the trend he wanted to take. As a father his biggest dream was to see his son be one of the greatest lawyers in Ghana. In his secondary school days at PRESEC Legon he used to play the keyboard during entertainment but he was discouraged totally by many except his friend who was also a jazz singer and his late uncle Benny Kyei a drummer for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s “Ohuru group” who gave him the thumps up to pursue what ever musical talent he has in him.

He started sound engineering from “Bellbottom” recording studio at Tema community 11 owned by Kudjo Oti of blessed memory who was then based in America where he worked for two years and also learnt audio engineering.

He later moved to Open Visions located at Adenta to do analog mixing and here it was all live music recording and mixing. He did all this for sometime and then decided to do everything on his own.

Setting up a studio was not easy as Kaywa says” The initial stage was not easy but fortunately as I was able to do things my own way.

The first people I worked with were top artiste from the States, South Africa, Canada and it continued till “Young Sam” a Ghanaian London based musician also heard of me and came to do his works with me”. Kaywa is also a drummer and has played for a lot of jazz groups and ultimately plays for his church at Gate Way Baptist Church in Tema community 11.

He is also good at the piano, trumpet and saxophone.

This young man claim the secret behind is success is God and he brings Him first in whatever he does because he has brought him that far. Again he said what pushes the musicians to him is “Quality music at affordable prices”.
