Glasgow 2014: Day nine of disappointments

Ghana was again hit with another disappointment when both the men and women 4*100 Relay team failed to advance to the finals from the Heats at the Hampdon Park, Stadium, Glasgow.

Ghana’s quartet of Daniel Gyasi, Solomon Afful, Kwadwo Acheampong and Emmanuel Dasor, were disqualified at the end of the race, though they placed fifth.

This follows errors in the exchange of the batons in the race.

In the Women’s 4*100, Flings Owusu Agyapong, Gemma Acheampong, Beatrice Gyaman and Doreen Agyei were not good enough to advance to the finals and were at the end of the race disqualified for errors in the exchange of batons though placed seventh in the race.

However the disqualification did not have any impact on the team, as the fifth and seventh positions were not good enough to secure places in the finals of the competition.

It would be recalled Ghana won silver in Women’s 4X100m Relay in the last Commonwealth Games, in Delhi, India.

Flings Owusu Agyapong speaking to sportcrusader.com said she was disappointed they failed to make it to the finals.

She however noted that it was a team for the future and when given the needed exposure.

Gyama also described the outcome as a huge disappointment saying “it’s painful we are out but the changing of the baton really affected us.

“I think if Janet Amponsah was part it could have been a different story by now”.
