Ghana wins Triple Jump Silver at AYG in Botswana

Ghana won its 9th medal at the ongoing African Youth Games after Precious Attipoe won a silver medal in the boy's triple jump with a leap of 15.43m on Friday.
Precious, a T. I. Amass Secondary School Form One student, leaped to his new personal best on his third attempt.
But he pulled a hamstring later on denying him the chance to continue with his heroics and perhaps snatch the gold medal from Nigeria’s Fabian Adoki who won the event with a jump of 15.93m.
Despite nursing a mild hamstring strain, sprinter Janet Mensah qualified for the final of the girl’s 200m after placing second in the semi final in a time of 24.68.
After running an impressive 24.78 in the first round, Janet had to receive medical treatment after suddenly experiencing sharp pains in her legs, leading to doubts about her ability to play any further part in the event.
But she returned to the tracks to advance to the final, slowing down considerably in the last 50m knowing fully well she had secured qualification. The final is on Saturday.
Godfred Kofitsey also secured qualification to the boy’s 200m final after coming third in his heat.
Elsewhere, Abigail Kwarteng came 7th in the girl’s High Jump event finishing with 1.50m while Anastasia Mensah exited the girl’s Javelin throw in the first round.
Ghana’s Janet Mensah and Godfred Kofitsey are expected to ran in the finals of the 200m boy’s and girl’s events respectively, Felicia Frimpong will be taking part in the girl’s triple jump and Richard Seklorwu will be in action in the boy’s 110m hurdles.
