GAA secures scholarship for five athletes

Accra, Dec. 11, GNA – The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), has secured scholarship for five Ghanaian athletes in the United States of America (USA) and an International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) training programme in Mauritius.

The five are; Doreen Sarfowaa Adjei, John Ampomah, Atsu Nyamadi, Beatrice Gyamang and Janet Amponsah.

Fuseini Bawa, General Secretary of the GAA who disclosed this to the GNA Sports said Sarfowaa Adjei and Ampomah will pursue their studies at the Neosho County Community College, USA, whilst Nyamadi and Gyamang, will enroll at the Dickingson State University also in the USA.

According to Bawa, Amponsah will be on an International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) programme in Mauritius. He said the move was part of the Associations effort to enhance the performance of the athletes as well as provide them the opportunity to pursue further education.

The General Secretary, was convinced the five athletes will be provided with better training facilities and counseling in the discipline and prepare them adequately for international events.

Bawa, said the five athletes are expected to start their respective programmes by the close of the first quarter in 2013
