French Sports wear giants Decathlon yesterday opened their largest shop in West Africa at the junction mall in Nungua, Accra.

The brief ceremony held at the company's premises had in attendance the Minister of Trade, Alan Kyerermanteng, the Minister of information, Mustapha Hamid, the deputy minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzie, deputy Greater Accra minister, Elizabeth Sackey, the French Ambassador to Ghana, the Teshie-Nungua traditional council and some distinguished personanlities from the sporting fraternity.

Speaking at the launch, the country manager of Decathlon Ghana Kwasi Tabury paid tribute to all those who made it possible for the French firm to establish a branch in Ghana and also reiterated his outfit’s commitment to the development of sports in Ghana which he said has manifested in how they have sponsored some sporting events even before they opened a branch in Ghana.



He averred that the vision of the company which is Sports for All’ can be seen in how affordable their prices are and how their quest to listen and provide the ideal sports wears that suits the environment within which their branch is established.



“Thanks for everyone who made it for possible for us to get here. Decathlon is company that is dedicated to sports for all people. We share two core values vitality and responsible and that is what give us urge to produce the best sports wears for our customers. Everywhere we go, we listen to our customers and deliver goods to suit them. Our prices are affordable because we have a perfect understanding of the market and are committed to our Sports for All agenda”

He further revealed that the Junction mall branch will not be their only branch in Ghana but the company will open more branches in Ghana.



On his part, the French Ambassador to Ghana Mr. Francois Pujolas said that the arrival of Decathlon in Ghana is a proof of France’s business interest in Ghana. He also used the opportunity to court Ghana’s support for Paris’ bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.



Decathlon is a French company with over 40 years existence. They have more than 1100 shops in 29 countries across the world.
