Kwesi Appiah shouldn't have applied for Ghana job, says Osei

Ghana Football Association executive committee member, Wilfred Kwaku Osei, claims Kwesi Appiah was wrong to have applied again for the Black Stars job, following the departure of Avram Grant.

Appiah was in charge of the national team between 2012 and 2014 and despite guiding Ghana to their third consecutive Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil, he was sacked after the tournament.

Osei, who doubles as the Black Stars management committee vice chairman, says Appiah's dream of staging a comeback is out of order.

“Kwesi Appiah is a very fortunate person. He had the opportunity to captain the Black Stars in the past," Osei told Happy FM.

"He also became the assistant coach and was later given the responsibility to head the Black Stars technical team and his former boss left. And that was the biggest opportunity for him to serve this country so if I were him, I would've stayed out of the Black Stars coaching job now.

“I would not have applied to become the coach again in the first place because it is out of order on my part. This is because he has done his best and should be satisfied with that,” he added.

There have been calls from several high-ranking Ghanaians, backing Appiah to be named as Grant's successor but Osei insists Ghana FA will not fall for such campaign.

''When he was appointed for the first time, it was under such similar calls for his appointment. Unfortunately, we all realized that he was not up to the task and that led to mutual termination of the contract when the initial two-year expired.

''In any case, why would Kwesi Appiah himself be interested in returning to a job he left because he did not agree with the Ghana FA top hierarchy over certain demands?''

Goal understands that the six-member committee setup to select the new coach will announce the successful candidate by end of March.
