Ghana Sinks Deeper In Latest FIFA Rankings

The once power house and monarchs of African soccer, Ghana is gradually sinking into oblivion. The latest Fifa Coca Cola Ranking has depicted a gloomy picture of the situation at hand.

In the early 90s, Ghana was ranked 15th in the world and undisputed 1st in Africa. Ghanaians are wondering what has changed so much that has pushed Ghana to 69th in the world and 13th in Africa. Last December, Ghana was 60th!

The sad of the story is that the soccer governing bodies, CAF and FIFA did not seed the four time African champions in the 2006 world cup qualifiers. Senegal, South Africa, Cameroun, Tunisia and Nigeria were seeded for pla! ying in the finals of 2002 world Cup. Egypt, Morocco, Ivory Coast and Democratic Republic of Congo have also been handed seeding for chalking good positions in the Latest FIFA ranking.

A cross section of the people interviewed by Space Fm attributed the problem to the unprofessional manner football has been administered in this country. According to them, Ghana has refused to embrace the basic tenets of professionalism that even countries like Iraq, Guatemala, Iceland, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Uganda and Estonia have adopted and are reaping dividends.

Ghana last won the Cup of Nations in 1982 and has since been struggling to keep pace with the likes of Senegal, Cameroun, Nigeria and Tunisia.
