GJA shocked at Mr. Kenu’s decision

GJA shocked at Mr. Kenu’s decision, distances itself from it.

The Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA received with shock and dismay, the decision by the Ashanti Regional Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr. Daniel Kenu to withdraw the assault case involving Mr. Samuel Anin Addo and Baffour Gyan, elder brother of Asamoah Gyan, captain of the Black Stars.

The GJA deems Mr. Kenu’s actions very unfortunate and a move tantamount to stabbing the Association in the back.

It will be recalled that the Association, other media related institutions, colleague journalists and the general public had all thrown their support behind him, in hopes that the case would ran its course and sought justice for not just Mr. Kenu but to also make a strong case against hooliganism and to send a message that persons like Mr. Gyan could not attack the media and merely get away with a slap on their wrists.
Mr. Kenu could have done himself, his family and this noble profession a lot of good if he had at least, discussed his decision with the GJA and management at the Graphic communications group.
The GJA is disgusted at Mr. Kenu’s decision, especially when Mr. Gyan had not shown remorse for his barbaric and disgraceful act.
Considering Mr. Kenu’s stature as an experienced journalist, the GJA imagined that he could have shown appreciation for the massive spontaneous support he garnered from all and sundry who heard, read and saw his plight at the hands of Mr. Gyan, and at least informed the GJA of his decision to withdraw the case from the court.
Media reports have already cast a slur on the integrity of Mr. Kenu and the GJA and we are very disappointed in the turn of events.
We, however, wish Mr. Kenu a speedy recovery and wish him and his family all the best moving forward. We do want to take this opportunity to express the Association’s profound gratitude to all for their unflinching support on the stands that the Association took and promise to continue our sustained efforts at bringing justice for our deserving members.
