Osu Traditional Council organizes Homowo marathon

William Akuka on Saturday won the 21-kilometre Osu ‘Homowo Marathon’ organized by the Osu Traditional Council.

Joseph Yandal and Malik Yakubu came second and third respectively.

They received a 32-inch flat-screen television, a sound system and a standing fan respectively in addition to a cash prize of GH¢ 50.00 each.

In the women division, Millicent Boali came first followed by Elizabeth Bortsor and Miss Regina Anoeni.

They also took away a 32-inch flat-screen television, Rice Cooker and a Blender respectively and a cash donation of GH¢ 50.00 each.

The event, which was opened to the public, was sponsored by PZ Company.

In all, about 70 runners took part in the annual marathon race, to coincide with the Homowo festival of the chiefs and people of Osu.

The Homowo festival is celebrated by the Ga-Dangme people in the Greater Accra Region and it also serves as a platform for family re-unions.

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona, Paramount Chief of Osu and the President of Traditional Council expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the sponsors and the participants of the marathon.

He wished them long life and prosperity and urged them to take part in the competition in their numbers next year.

William Akuka said he was delighted for taking part in the race and thanked the organisers and the sponsors of the marathon.
