Bonsu scores debut goal in Mjallby win

Ghanaian international midfielder Kwame 'Conte' Bonsu scored his debut goal for Mjallby in a 3-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers in a friendly game on Wednesday evening.

The 19-year-old midfielder became the hero of the night as his debut strike proved very decisive for the Hällevik-based club who came from two goals down to beat the English Championship side. Robert Hall gave the Whites an early lead in the fifth minute and doubled his side's advantage two minutes later to put Bolton in the driving seat.

Mattias Haakansson pulled one back for Mjallby in the 12th minute of the game before Kristian Haynes scored four minutes later with a simple tap in to put Mjallby on a level pegging with Bolton Wanderers. Bonsu scored an incredible volley in the 38th minute to put Mjallby in front for the first time in the game and it proved to be the match winner when he received a great cross from Janovski, controlled it nicely and curled the ball perfectly into the bottom corner.

Bonsu described his goal as one of his all-time best but revealed he would have wanted to score such an important one in the Allsvenskan to help Mjallby AIF beat the relegation battle.

“This is one of the goals every player will want to score as a debut goal for his club, I couldn't believe myself after the ball entered the net with the Bolton goalkeeper standing still," he told Goal Ghana. “We are in hard times in the league and I would've wished to score such an incredible goal in the league rather than in a friendly game to win my team [Mjallby] all the three points at stake.”

He added: “I still believe strongly that we will survive relegation because I can feel the unity and understanding in the team and it will be very useful for us.”

Mjallby AIF is placed 14th on the Allsvenskan log, one point adrift of safety with 16 matches remaining.
