"Discovery of the Year" off to Holland

Jordan Opoku has been voted by the Ghanaian media as the Discovery of the Year. i.e. biggest talent of the year.

Opoku is expected to move to Holland soon.

The midfielder is the first 'product' of Feyenoord Fetteh's youth acadamy. The Dutch giants are not only thinking about football, but also give the pupils school lessons. They were the first team who did this. The Ghanaian government supports the Feyenoord Footbal Acadamy. Former Ghana national coach Sam Arday is coach of the whole club.

17-year-old Opoku was in Holland last year and played in a tournament with the Feyenoord youth squad. He impressed and was crowned the best player of the Feyenoord youth tournament.

When the player turns 18, Feyenoord will give him a professional contract. It's expected he can gain experience at Feyenoord's feeder club Excelsior Rotterdam. All the biggest talents of Feyenoord are loaned out to this club. Excelsior were promoted last season to the Holland Casino Eredivisie.

There is already a Ghanaian at Feyenoord. It's Christian Gyan, however his contract will not be renewed when it expires this year.
