Yahaya Mohamed signs for Ittihad Tripoli

Kotoko striker Yahaya Mohamed has shocked fans of the Ghanaian giants after signing for Libyan top-flight outfit Ittihad Tripoli, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 25-year-old moves to the Libyan giants from Kumasi-based Asante Kotoko after signing a long-term deal on Tuesday, Ghana’s leading football news outlet can confirm.

The move which will come as a massive surprise to the club’s teeming fans who were eliminated from the Champions League by Liberian minnows BYC.

Fans of the Porcupine Warriors expected Mohammed to stay to boost their flagging fortunes but it is clear the striker wants greener pastures to secure his footballing and financial future.

GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal that the versatile player has signed a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee.

Mohammed impressed during the 2014 CHAN tournament in South Africa which alerted the North African side to move for his services.

They stole the march off a number of South African clubs especially to sign the Ghanaian international.

The former Amidaus Professionals loanee failed to travel with the Kotoko team to Liberia for their CAF Champions League clash against Barrack Young Controllers due to injury.

But just two days after Kotoko exited the competition, he signed what is believed to be mouth-watering deal.

The striker has featured strongly in football classifieds in Ghana with several clubs in Europe and elsewhere said to be keen on the player following his impressive showing at the Africa Nations Championship in South Africa last month.

Kotoko will now have to rely only on striker Seidu Bancey to bang in the goals with Mohammed departure as they seek to win the league title.

With the transfer window firmly shut, Kotoko will be unable to sign a player from any rival club unless he is a free agent.
