Nigeria U17 women defeat Ghana 2-1 in Accra

The Nigeria cadet women national team have given their preparation for the World Cup a shot in the arm with a 2-1 victory over Ghana U17 women national team in an international friendly in Accra on Sunday.

The Flamingoes made it 5-1 on aggregate against the Black Maidens after a 3-0 first leg victory at the FIFA Goal Project Centre in Abuja.

The game that was played at the Accra Sports Stadium saw a late dramatic victory confirm the double for Nigeria.

The Nigeria U17 girls had a bright start against their opponents in the grudge match as the early opener came through Aku Cynthia Onyedikachi in the fifth minute of the match to see the Black Maidens trail 1-0 at half time.

In the second half, the awakened Ghanaian girls returned with much desire to avoid defeat as they were rewarded just five minutes into the second period with a leveler through Lilly Niby.

Ajibade Rashidat scored the winning goal for Nigeria in the 83rd minute to complete the double victory over their West African neighbours.

Both teams will represent Africa at the Fifa U17 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica.
