How on earth can a goal keeper who is a captain in a team which has just won a league title in a competition which is far stronger than that of South African league, and has played almost if not all the matches and has been awarded the player of the year award be considered a second choice to a bench warmer keeper who is not even a first choice in a team which is not even doing very well in that league. All this can be attributed to incompetence,or somebody's hands are being 'oiled' or just a corrupt minded. The truth will come out,not me but GOD's truth, amen.

Nassam is 100 percent right and any great coach would do the same (pick Fatau over Kwarasey). That is why Kwasi Appiah supports that decision.
Many keep talking about Fatau Dauda being rusty, not playing; he is on the bench etc.
Kwarasey on the otherhand is not proving his worth at training with the Stars either. Kwarasey can be the best Golie in the world but if at training ground where all our Stars who are equal in calibre and even better than some world class players we are going to face at the World Cup assemble to try him and Dauda and he fails to live up to the task or expectation, Akwasi Appiah will continue to use Dauda and it makes perfect sense period!
Orlando Pirates I knew came in quickly for Dauda because they know his worth and what he can do with time to come. They also knew he will be a Star and worth millions after the World Cup, hence bought him from hungry Gold Fields who lacked that fore sight.
This Fatau guy is very good but most Ghanaians are just failing or intentionally do not want to admit. Watch his tapes at AFCON 2013 and the crutial qualifiers and be the judge. It takes a golie with a heart to withstand the pressure of qualifiers to help his nation qualify.
Also, watch Kwarasey's tapes of AFCON 2012 in Guinea and be the judge as well.
For those who don't know or fail to admit, there are technical differences between league matches, qualifying series and tournaments like the AFCON and World Cup. With the league matches players and teams always play with known faces and teams on their own soil. Qualifying series on the other hand does not give the teams the luxury opportunity to play the teams and players they know totally on their home soil; they meet teams randomly picked for them. Tournaments are completely different, here you play various matches almost on few days’ basis and are keenly competitive; sometimes you don't even know the team you are playing in the next round should you qualify.
With the above analysis, you'll agree with me that Kwarasey can be the best in the Norwegian league, captain of his side and the voted best goalie. However, tournaments and qualifying series are different ball games. Does he have the confidence for the later two? Have we not seen his best at a tournament? Be the judge.
Dauda was his side's captain too (Obuasi Goldfields) and he won man of the match at the AFCON 2013 in South Africa (a rare achievement for Goal Keepers). He performs at training with the Black Stars and the technical team sees and knows it period. It is up to the Coach and the Keeper's trainer to sharpen his loose ends and he's a gem! Orlando Pirates know that. It is just unfortunate he met another great Goalie at the team.
Kwarasey by my estimation is not playing for any team outside Norway where he lived almost all his life. He probably might be on the bench for a team outside Norway too just like Fatau who was regular with Obuasi GF.
Let's see who is better to be in the post at the World Cup In the coming months, when they both get to keep in our friendly matches.

Truth has just pointed OUT the obvious. The goalkeeping coach is just trying to justify the unjustifiable. The player of the year in the Norwagian League lacks mental strength ah? So, just for a second assume this is the case, considering the overall superiority of Kwarassey in terms of physique, natural ability, agility and the lot over a club third choice Dauda, should the goalkeeping coach not address this issue with Kwarassey on a one to one discussion and make sure he is ready mentally for our matches? What is his role as a goalkeeping coach then if he cannot remedy this comparatively tiny alleged defect he is harping about? Dont believe your excuse. Truth is probably right, either your palms are being greased or you have a personal dislike for Kwarassey for some reason. He is by far the better of the two goalkeepers. Football fans worldwide are scratching their heads with your choice of goalie for the BS.

You are totally right. There is currently uncertainty about the Black Stars' readiness for Brazil.
It is very strange for a goal-keeping coach to come out and make those comments about the current goalies of the Black Stars. There is also an apparent conflict of interest involving Fatau and Nasam.
Did Nasam Yakubu consult James "Silent Killer" Appiah before making these coments. Did Appiah know about these things. What is the opinion of the captain "Baby Jet" Gyan on the issue.
When Olele left the scene, Kwarasey took over the goalkeeping role and did a relatively good job until his injury made it possible for Dauda to emerge. Dauda looked bigger, taller , fearless and fearsome in the begining. But Appiah declared that Dauda was not number one. Of late Dauada's confidence has evaporated wheras Kwarasey's star is on the rise.
GFA must at this point construct a reliable technical team equipped with a non-biased goalie coach to assist James "Silent Killer" Appiah. They must start work right now. From now on, time will fly. Forward Ever Backwards Never. The Black Stars must bring the World Cup to Beautiful Ghana.

The title of this article is even misleading... I expected to read a number of reasons to be given why fatau is better in the post for ghana than kwarasey. The only reason given is the mental attitude of the players during training. It could be true but its not a very strong argument. I think the whole thing is about trust. Fatau has always risen to the challenge whenever he's given the chance and saved ghana many times from what should have been certain goals against us. You can't even blame him that much for most of the goals scored against us. Kwarasey on the other hand was impressive from the beginning but later on started making silly mistakes which resulted in goals against us. In tough matches mistakes like that could be costly and even decide the outcome of the match. Kwarasey needs to get some more opportunities, maybe, in friendly matches to win back the trust of AA, cos he's getting more playing time and right now i believe is in better shape than fatau. Otherwise as long as Fatau continue to deliver for the black stars, you can't change a winning team. As a coach you play the players who you believe could help you win.

In corporate world this alone disqualifes the man from being on the team because his judgments are always going to be suspect. Furthermore, saying a guy does not show a heart to die is like saying he will select a 17yr old to man the post if he shows the most zeal and commitment to play. Total fallacy. cuz you have to consider experience, match fitness based on form, and performance at club level. You might as well never take a select a player who hardly trains cuz he is not too well to go through the rigor of the session. THis is not right, shows the man does not have the right criteria. almost 90% of those here who gave comments all agree it not the right approach/. I think its time we let the man go particularly cuz of the conflict of interest and the incompetence he haas shown regarding the criteria for selecting a goalie. We hope this is not Kwesi Appiah's mentality. Can this explain why Inkoom and Adiyiah at times get call ups? They work so hard in training i guess?

He used to speak very good english, very friendly and humble. I think these are the things that might have led nyantakyi to give him the nod but not for his goalkeeping prowess. he was in post when hearts drew with kotoko 2:2 at kumasi. i remembered henry acquah & eben dugbatey scored hearts goals. by then i felt hearts should have won that match but for some questionable goal keeping.
it will be stupid to go to the gfa directorate to seek information on nasamu. he is their choice and they would have given you an embelished information on him. i think kwesi nyantakyi let us down by appointing very low calibre people unto the blackstars bench. nasamu, saban quaye and maxwell knoadu never merit a call up into the blackstars during their playing days. the gfa seemed to shunning top notch ex blackstars players turned coaches. why is kwesi nyantakyi avoiding the likes of joseh carr, simon addo(goal keepers trainers), joe addo, etc?

Could it then be the usually Ghanaian drama that kwarasey is not used to, or a desperate attempt to catch the eye of the trainer? Whichever it is, it is working for him.
Needless to add my voice to those who say the comments were unnecessary and a desperate attempt to settle the confusion in our minds. He has worsen the situation and by accepting to train Duada privately, he may have compromised his job. Very disappointing if indeed he said these and not professional enough to be coming from a professor.

If this is the criteria that the said goalkeeper trainer says he uses to make a choice for Black Stars No. 1 shirt then he shouldn't be in charge at all, in the first place.
It's absolutely out of place for Nasam Yakubu to be making such public statements when our National Team need a competent trainer and competent goalkeeper. Mr. Yakubu obviously doesn't have any international exposure hence his weird assertions about goalkeeper selection. As my friend just whispered he could well be dwelling on nepotism or tribalism for making his choices while trying to promote Dauda who as Ghanaians will agree, isn't having a good time at club level, in South Africa. Nobody is saying Dauda isn't a good goalkeeper, but we want an active keeper to help protect our post during our game/matches with other countries.
In terms of mistakes, both Kwarasey and Dauda have their flaws which they have to do well to correct. Both keepers have let in questionable goals during international matches. But on the plus side, Kwarasey for instance displayed exceptional qualities with our friendly match against Brazil in England to the admiration of the Brazilians themselves.
Nasam Yakubu shouldn't try to be tribal kind of guy and be honest because this isn't tribal game. We need honest trainers to polish our goalkeepers otherwise he's not fit to be in charge. We may have to look for a better man to do the job. The WC-2014 is just 5 months away and there's no room for such attitudes.

Fatau has never been in the post since he went to south africa. it does not matter how die hard he is,the fact briefly is why would you send a goalkeeper who does not even wear a jersey even as a subtitute in his team to the world cup? folks this is common sense if we really wanna go pass the elimination stages then we should think wisely. i don't care for either one of them but i think Kwarasey shold be the number one pick. This is world cup not african cup of nations. Fatau shold not be our number choice unless he can justify himself with team as one of thier goal keepers.

Reading this article gives me pain all over my body. It is ashame to even print the article. If this man is the trainer then God help Ghana. Old folks say: "ok pro nwo anoma". It is baseless in his analysis. Fatau is baseless. There is an old adage that says: "If you don't know death watch when someone is sleeping". Egypt explains how bad Fatau is. I believe his comment and the one from AA is a deliberate attempt to solidify the basis for using Fatau and I can bet my life on it they intend to use him in Brazil. I give the trainer F for effort and ungraded paper for knowledge. There must be a demonstration in Ghana to get this trainer sacked. He is useless.

Come the end of the day if Kwesi Appiah and/or GFA are so stupid that they think this way of operating is how to prepare the team for Brazil, then sorry we aren’t getting kicked out of Brazil straight away…fanciful ideas that Appiah seems to come out with of Ghana doing something is just that.
Why oh why do we keep doing this to ourselves…we have always had the quality of players but the technical knowledge, lack of PROPER preparation and corruption is why we haven’t won any major tournament in 30 plus years and this will continue based on the nonsense coming from the current set up.

Some of us are going to be spending thousands of hard earned dollars to go and support the BS in Brazil. We have the moral right to make sure the best players represent Ghana in the tournament. I HAVE PESISTED in this arguement for a long time with support. i have contended that the problem with blackstars goalkeeeping are the trainers and not necessarily the goalkeepers. i have contended that goal keepers of the 70s were very excellent as against goalkeepers of the 80s(ansahs, dambas, nanabenyins, nasamus, etc) And looking at the list of goal keepers you have cited here i am convinced we both think on the same lines. added to your list are goalkeepers , such as abdulai chesko, sam supkey, paul annan, the late john baker, the late lante frans.
for your information Carr has been on kotoko's bench for the last decade and only left to the western region last year. i believe he was protesting salaries subtly though. abdulai chesko i think is still with the ghana army. sam ampeh i know manages a team in the central region still looking trim. and ffrom the latest stock of quality goalkeepers simon addo is back in the country and was recently spoted on the chelsea of berekum's bench.

Why is it that Kwarasey or any other keeper of the team has never been used either as a starter or substitute in real game situation? What will happen if your so called best pair of hands get hurt during the game and has to be replaced? Don't you think you are not helping to build the confidence of Kwarasey or the other keepers in the team. Dauda may get hurt and Kwarasey may be the keeper for Brazil 2014, so it is not wise not to use him at all in any of our qualifiers and friendlies. I think the best strategy is to alternate the keepers. Our midfield is solid,{Esien,Muntari,KPB,Ayew} are also good striders and can score goals so our attack is very good, but defense and goal keeping are suspects so my advice to AA is to focus on how to improve these two areas and not leave it to the trained teacher.

The title of this article is even misleading.

Lets look @ the other side. Fatau was in the 2008 squad but never featured. Kwarasey had a straight walk in into the post 2011 i guess. the way was paved for him by the sidelining of richard kingson and he enjoyed tremendous goodwill for a number of factors. however we failed to change the goal keepers coach in the person of edward ansah so not long after kwarasey started losing his massive goodwill because there were traces of flaws which were exhibited by goalkeepers of the 80s which included edward ansah, abukari damba & nasamu yakubu. then when fatau came in later he did impressed. he made us to forget at least for a while ghana's best ever goalie kingson. now under the tutelege of nasamu we have started questioning fatau.
in summary what iwant to say is that some how somewhere along the line kwarasey did not appear convincing. secondly i don't believe in the bribery twist. thirdly, its true that fatau looked more confident. however i believe that we either replace the goal keepers' trainer with either joseph carr or simon addo.
to me its a blessing that nasamu came out with this. he was smuggled unto the blackstars bench quietly by kwesi nyantaky and oti akenteng.
all this while it is fatau who as taken the whip from the public. now with this comments by nasamu attention has now been drawn t him and we will continue to appeal to kwesi nyantakyi until he go looking for either joseh car or simon addo or both to handle our national team goal keepers.

I don't know for what reason Nasam Yakubu finds himself obliged to say all this. The perimeter which he said decides his final choice, even in advance, is too narrow. Kwarasey is a good goal-keeper, Dauda, and the youthful and agile Agyei as well. We are very lucky to have all these excellent keepers and choices would be made as and when the circumstances demand. Let us be careful not to place too much value on one above the other so that when the need arises - injuries, expulsions, etc. - they all will give their best in all confidence for Ghana. If you, the Goal-keeper trainer and selector diminish their excellence and capability, please don't weep and blame when they score them, and you LOSE games. Nasam Yakubu is wrong in getting the pubic to read this simple-minded and unfortunate assessment on our brilliant national goal-keepers.

Let's see who is better to be in the post at the World Cup In the coming months, when they both get to keep in our friendly matches.

excellent analysis. i can't fault you on any of the points raised. i think i have sentiments similar to yours but lacking the courage to say them as you have said.
if you check the comments here, i have posed a question that how come fatau took over?
in my opinion, i think we need a trainer like joseph carr or simon addo to tighten the loose ends of not only fatau but kwarasey, and daniel nii agyei as well. certainly at a point fatau did impressed.
prior to fatau i can recall kwarasey was under very heavy criticism so i am surprise now that the scales seemed to have turned in his favour.
i think the problem is that some of us are nursing a desire to see a very handsome player in the post. secondly, me personally do not fancy fatau's creating those monster images on camara and those kneeling downs.
but let me end by saying that i read everything you put out here & i believed it is very impacting.

You reason for chosen Dauda over Kwarasey does not add up. Why are you a goalkeeper coach? Your job is to prepare the right person for the job as a goalkeeper. You are not a psychologist to tell who is fit to man the post. By virtue of his record, Kwarasey is far better than a bench warmer. Prepare him mentally and psychologically and stop playing games with the mentality of Ghanaians.
