Appiah – I am not focused on contract extension

Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah says he is not focused on netting a contract extension at the moment.

Appiah, whose contract ends after the 2014 World Cup, told GTV’s Stage Africa host Jerry Kwame Ayensu that he is fully focused on guiding the Black Stars to glory at the 2014 World Cup, adding that he is not agitating for a contract extension now.

“I am not agitating for a contract extension now. The Ghana Football Association is yet to speak to me about it but my focus now is preparing the team to do well at the World Cup.”

Appiah also revealed that he wants to take former team captain Stephen Appiah to Brazil, even though he admitted that no specific role has been defined for the former Juventus midfielder.

“We will still have discussions over the role that Stephen can play, but he is one person I want to take with me to Brazil as part of my backroom staff. I made him a promise during the 2010 World Cup that we would go together to the 2014 World Cup and as a former captain, his experience will be vital for us in terms of talking to the players. They all respect him and that is why I would want him to be with us.”
