Preview: Ashanti Gold SC vs Berekum Chelsea

The Ghana Premier League enters Week-15 with some tricky matches ahead of next week’s break and one of the most interesting games will be at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium where third-placed Ashantigold welcome relegation-threatened Berekum Chelsea.

Ashgold face what is likely to be a stern test against a side that has vowed to lift themselves out of the relegation zone and are bent on using the game to begin their revival.

The Miners are yet to lose at home this season and are desperate to continue their fine form in order to win the league which has eluded them for more than a decade.

Current form does not count in encounters between these two giants since they settled for draw in their home and away games last season when they met.

Coach Bashir Hayford is likely to stick to players like Burkinabe-import Henry Traore, Daniel Asamoah, centre back Lawrence Lartey. Anthony Yerful, Shafiu Mumuni and Alhaji Sannie whilst Chelsea will count on the experience of skipper Abdul Basit, and midfield enforcer Owusu Jackson.

Former Berekum Chelsea defender Awudu Nafiu who is having a good maiden season with the Miners will be out to prove a point to his former employers by thwarting the effort of the attackers.

Ashantigold have proved to be very formidable in all departments of the game and the Chelsea team who have been poor away travelers this season will find it difficult breaking them.

A defeat to Chelsea will further sink them deeper into the relegation zone whilst the Miners can also be in the top two depending on the outcome of the other games.
