After a successful introduction of beach volleyball earlier this year in the Western Region, the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA) will host the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) Zone 3 countries in an international friendly tournament in Takoradi today.
The participating nations are Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Burkina Faso who have confirmed their participation and were expected in the country today.
According to Paul Atchoe, president of the GVA, players expected to feature in the tournament have been drawn from the senior beach volleyball category, adding that the tournament will mark the start of preparations towards the All African Games elimination next year when Ghana will defend the bronze medal it won in Maputo in 2011 and if possible improve upon it.
Ahead of the tournament, the technical unit of the GVA will organise a one-day seminar for the officials of the sport.
