Charity Boxing Night Launched

A boxing programme, featuring two professional and four amateur bouts, to raise 15 million cedis to support amateur boxing was today launched in Accra The show, dubbed "charity boxing night" is slated for November 13 at the Accra International Conference Centre. Mr. Mark A. Edwards, General Manager of La Beach Hotel said at a press conference in Accra today that the show being organised by La Beach Hotel, the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and Don Arthur International promotion would become a yearly affair. He said the maiden bout which would be open to only companies and top business executives is aimed at selling sponsorship ideas to them. It is also to encourage them to take interest in boxing promotions. Seasoned boxers to feature on the maiden bout include, Marvelous Nana Yaw Konadu, WBA bantamweight champion. Mr. Edwards said the overall best boxer of the night would be given a plague while others who would excel get medals. Among those present were Nii Quaye Mensah and Colonel John Sharpe, Presidents of GBA and GABA respectively.
