RFA chief backs Teonde Utd for Premier League

Upper East Region is the only region in the country that is yet to taste Premiership action, it has yet to produce a club playing in the Ghanaian top flight league.

The region which is of course 52 years old have only one team representing it in this season’s national Division One League. This follows the inability of Upper East United FC to meet the deadline for payment of affiliations fees.

Nevertheless, the region’s hopes of getting Premiership status now lies in the hands of newly promoted Zebila Teonde United. The Regional Football Association’s vice chairman, Ibrahim Fuseini is backing Teonde United to end the region’s Premiership drought this season. The stanch football administrator in the region, who is the CEO of Division Two side, Garu United in an interview with Gbc Ura Radio Sports in Bolgatanga, expressed much confidence in the Zebila based side to qualify to the elite division of Ghana football. “From what I saw of the team during the regional Division Two Middle League where they went unbeaten in seven matches, I’m convinced they have what it takes to compete in the Division One League,” Ibrahim Fuseini said.

He continued: “And I’m very confident that management of the team would put in place suitable measures that will help the team in their quest to make it to the Premiership at the end of the Division One campaign. The Upper East Regional FA Veep added: “However I will only appeal to the people of the region to support the team in any way they can.” Teonde United is making their debut in the Division One League after they emerged champions in the regional Division Two league last year during which the famously went unbeaten in seven matches.

The national division one league which is Ghana`s second tier league is expected to start this weekend across the various league centers across the country.

Gbc Ura radio Sports can confirm that Teonde United will use the Bawku Sports Stadium as their home ground instead of the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium.
