Impilo Ghana FC to play in honour of Attuquafio

Eastern region 2nd division outfit, Impilo Ghana FC will play Madina United in a game arranged to honour the living memory of one of Ghana?s illustrious football sons, ?Sir? Cecil Jones Attuquafio.

The game would be played on Friday afternoon at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra as a curtain raiser to the main action which would feature a select side of Ghanaian professionals against a side dubbed ?Friends of Jones Attuquafio?.

Tomorrow?s game for Impilo Ghana FC, also forms part of their preparations towards the commencement of the Eastern regional football season which is expected to kick off next month.

The management of the team has been long time friends of the celebrated Ghanaian coach who in 2000 guided Accra Hearts of Oak to continental glory by winning the African Champions League.

Sir Cecil as he is popularly known to his Ghanaian folks has not been well for some time but is responding well to treatment after going through some examination at the Ear, nose and throat department of the Korle Bu Teaching hospital in Accra recently.

This charity game in his honour is being put together by Primeval Consult Ghana in association with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and is aimed at raising funds to support the ear, nose and throat center at Ghana?s leading teaching hospital.

Impilo Ghana are expected to feature all of their trusted arsenal going into this game including the likes Prince Osei, Suraj Rayies, Sumaila Osumanu, Faisal Amadu, Lantei Mills, Bala Mohammed, Sumaila Bukari, Desmond Adjei and Abdul Gida Rahman among others.

They are expecting to put in a good performance against Madina United a side they have encountered before in their preparations for the start of the league in their region.

The game involving the professionals and the Friends of the celebrated coach, will see the likes of Stephen Appiah, Amankwah Mireku, Daniel Opare, Agyemang Badu, Isaac Vorsah, Laryea Kingston, Ishmael Addo, Bong Bortey, Agyemang Dua, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, Jacob Nartey, Daniel Adjei, Rabiu Mohammed and David Ardy.

Cecil Jones Attuquafio is a former Ghana international and has coached at all levels of the national teams and in addition to the 2000 African triumph, also guided Hearts of Oak to win the maiden CAF Confederation Cup in 2004.

He also qualified the Republic of Benin to their first African Cup of Nations tournament a competition he won as a player in 1965 with Ghana and was one time African coach of the year.
